Neane Kills

This is Neane. She's a very skilled assassin, deadly martial artist, and devout Tsan Mondian. Pledging allegiance to the Infinite Death of the Universe, and spending her days worshiping the dark god Tsanner Daetsel, she and a number of her brothers and sisters make up the Mondian Liquidators. They are a group of adherent Mondians who will kill in the name of Tsanner Daetsel to protect their religion, defend their beliefs and make examples of anyone who would dare defy or attempt to undermine their religion or mission.

There are several sects to the Mondian religion. It's an offshoot of the Church of Vief, similar to the way Protestants and Catholics stemmed from the same group. Tsan Mondians, or Pure Mondians as they call themselves, worship Tsanner Daetsel, an immortal human who has purportedly existed since the moment the universe burst into being. They kill at the drop of a hat, and must shed precious blood during their initiation ceremony. They're the largest faction in the religion, and wield a sizable military and naval force.

The second largest sect is that of the Elegect Mondians. They revere the enlightenment of death, and study it and its experience as a way to experience god. Their initiation ceremony revolves around the Empari, which is when new members are asphyxiated, left dead for a full minute or more (with their body chilled), then brought back to life to share their experiences with their brothers and sisters. Higher rank clerics and members will partake of the Empari routinely, using a number of chemicals and techniques to preserve their bodies, even as they lose a grip on reality as their minds physically die. Studying the deaths of enemy combatants in battle is one of their most favored traditions, and this group is easily as aggressive as their Tsan cousins. 

Neane here is using an antique FAMAS bullpup rifle, modified to fire .30 caliber self-propelled, self-guided projectiles. These semi rocket powered bullets can steer themselves around corners, auto compensate for atmospheric effects and density, and can even alter their course to chase down an evading target.


About Neane:
Neane joined the Elegect Mondian religion after her family was killed in an explosive decompression accident. She witnessed the whole event through the window of a bulkhead that slammed shut inches in front of her as the station they were on detected the rupture as it occurred. After seeing such death first-hand the young woman was inclined to try to understand why it happened, and quickly found the Elegect. During her initiation, she was strangled to death by a novice member as part of his graduation ceremony, and when she was resuscitated a minute and a half later, the girl recounted her experience to her new family.

An excerpt from Neane's transcript:
"I could still feel Jean's hands on my neck, the flesh of his thumbs pressing hard on my windpipe. I couldn't breathe, even as I fell through clouds, brighter than the sun. They were cold, and dragged over my limbs like icy needles. The clouds opened around me, and it felt as if they were pulling me in all directions, their wisps tearing at my skin as they pulled away. I was looking down at the universe, small enough to fit in my hand, a bright mass of tiny lights, all pulsing with their own heartbeat. I could hear it now too, the heartbeat of the living universe.

Then the clouds gripped me once more, wrenching me from my vista, dragging me back up and away, enveloping me in their cold embrace. Their light grew brighter till felt the cold pushing down my throat, filling my lungs."

Neane would never participate in the Empari again, preferring to engage in combat against other groups to study death first-hand, connecting to the minds of defeated combatants via a neural shunt inserted through one of their eyes. As the Religion Wars wound down and she found herself with less people to kill, Neane left the Elegect church, and joined up with a rather brutal group of Tsan Mondians operating within a former Imperial Deadzone. There, she found plenty of targets for her rifle, and worshiped alongside individuals with a bloodlust as thirsty as hers.
