Heavy Sun

Description

The Heavy Sun is an Alani Class freight tug capable of hauling standardize shipping containers in-system. The vehicle is modular, made up of two main sections. The forward section contains a main braking and maneuvering thruster, along with reactor, crew quarters and main communication and scanning arrays. The rear section houses the main engines, secondary comms array and retraction mechanisms for the rig's "spines." The two sections separate when loading or releasing cargo; the ships main computer aligns the two during docking. The vehicle is only capable of flight within a vacuum, other ships are used to shuttle cargo pods to a planets surface.

Loaded up with 14 standard containers, the Heavy Sun is over three hundred meters long, and was designed for endurance hauls of medium and low priority goods. Due to its sub-light speed, trips from Mercury to the moons of Jupiter can take up to a year, during which time the crew has little more to do than their twice-daily inspections of the ship and its cargo. Due to this potentially leading to insanity or extreme deviant behavior, the Biotechnical Division of Alani Corp teamed up with Mychor VR to create an immersive virtual reality simulator where crews could live and play as if they were planet-side, or adventuring in some alternate reality. This dramatically increases crew longevity and willingness to work long-haul shifts.

The Heavy Sun is owned and operated by Raquelle Hassilon, a human-Felorian daughter of the Second Psychic War. After the war ended, Raquelle decided to remain in the Earthain System as work there was good, and it was much safer to be a freighter pilot within one of the most militarized systems in the Human Holdings. Many of the outer systems are infested with pirates, Ort Spiders and other hazards that could easily end a successful career in an instant.

Ships of this class are capable of docking with one another relatively easily. On longer hauls, it is recommended that vessels operate this way, as company can often ease tensions that form from months in space, and when approaching their destination, the added engine power helps with maneuvering and braking.

Very nice concept my man. It's always nice to see people try out their own ideas (i.s.o. Copying the Enterprise for the trillionth time) good job.
