Astinaw Corasinash

One of only three such member of her species, Astinaw is a "Punirawn", or a hybrid, able to breath air and metabolize oxygen from water, much as fish do. She needs no gills or swimlungs, as many aquatic animals have, as the orifices along the underside of her body exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and water with very little effort.

Astinaw was born into a merchant family in a small port town on the island of Loujau, her mother was a Geronan Hikki (naga) and her father was a Isican Venrock, so her birth confounded the scientific community. Tests have been conducted proving that she is indeed their child, not the product of infidelity or "horseplay". One of the few downsides of Astinaw's condition is the fact that she cannot talk, as her normal lungs and windpipe are extremely under-developed. She communicates through hand signals, body language and by writing on the foreheads of passing individuals, much to their dismay.
