Arachne Class TAI by JazzLizard Arachne Class TAI by JazzLizard
This is the Arachne class TAI, produced by Alani High Robotics and Alani Heavy Industries. It was designed as an intelligent multipurpose machine, capable of working in zero-g and terrestrial environments. Due to its modular construction, the Arachne was relatively inexpensive to produce, and was manufactured in large numbers for use in shipbuilding facilities and maintenance docks.

Equipped with eight main legs and four smaller ones, each tipped with a flexible-pincer manipulator, the Arachne was a capable and intelligent machine. It was produced and utilized mainly during the Imperial Expansion Era, when large civilian groups ventured deep into uncharted space. Machines such as these were used extensively to repair and maintain colony ships, and aid in the construction of outposts, both land based and orbital. Some units were used for guard and sentry duties on more hostile worlds, but their lack of initial combat programming made them less than effective soldiers, at first. Both the Empire and the Cave-Grove rebellious forces utilized weaponized Arachne TAIs in their skirmishes, and some were even deployed on sabotage missions by CG agents.

Following the end of hostilities, battle-hardened Arachne TAIs found themselves employment in various mercenary and militia groups, and even as support units for planetary police forces. Their production had long since ended, but maintenance and upgrades were still supported by the Alani family, as the model remained popular for a number of reasons. Civilian and industrial use of the four-ton machine remained high as it worked well with its more modern counterparts.

I'll be portraying one of the Arachne's military models in an upcoming illustration.

Hmm, I'm not sure if a robotic spider the size of a compact car would have the same scariness effect as a small one hanging on your wall, though.
