Amalgamation by JazzLizard Amalgamation by JazzLizard
Simply an organism made up of a multitude of smaller organisms, which in turn are made up of smaller organisms, and so on and so forth. Midden encountered an immense mass of organic matter drifting through space while on a deep charting run, and rapidly discovered that the very large blob of life was indeed a sentient superbeing, made up of countless conciousnesses, which had organized themselves to be capable of space travel and planetary observation.

Midden's scientists were able to discover that with three single celled organisms combined into one larger one, a sentience was born, and was found to be fully capable of free thought, and decision making. They could combine into masses, either to perform a function or to channel energy, into an engine or weapon perhaps. Using the most rudementary of chemical reactions, these cells we able to obtain massive amounts of enegry from raw organic matter, even plastics and synthetics like rubber and oil.

Midden has only encountered one such amalgamated organism, but one sentience hinted at a planet-scalled being of gargantuan intelligence and wisdom of the universe. An expedition has been prepared to find said being.

Yeah...this picture took some time. It's quite possibly the most lead I've ever put down on a 9x12 sheet.

Damn on a dollarama, that's some insane level 9 super hard mode detail, there. o.0 I respect aaaanybody who can work all that in and still talk about working on it more. Not to even mention the concept, which is crazy. Interesting, that is.

One of those things that, despite a female, humanoid shape...one cannot really be attacted to, knowing what it is. Though, that would never stop one from befriending it or conversing for simply that sake, or for the effort of gaining new knowledge only it might possess... ^^

Another well thought out, very detailed idea. ~_^

Makes one wonder...with the mental capacity of even one of the tiny organisms, what would be the centient power and prowess of one even only the size of an average humanoid? ^^

Lol, see? This is exactly the kind of comment I love and live for. Midden's scientists soon find out just how complex a shape these organisms can take, they can mimic their Vulpesants and Venrocks perfectly, down to clothes and hair. They often forget to breathe or blink, which is a good way to spot one, tho.

An organism the size of a human would have massive mental capabilities, dozens of times that of a normal human, although many of the cells within it's body would be more preoccupied performing supportive or muscular duties, so they would not add to it'scognitive capabilities.

With that much cognitive ability, I'd think they could still contribute a little, even then. ^^

I happen to live for conversations like this. ^^

And I must say, it'd be interesting to see a Vulpesant or Venrock not breathing or blinking...lol ~_^

And they sound about as smart as a dragon when human-sized... ^^

Well, I've never really heard as dragons as being considered super-smart, but that's just me. These organisms would be capable of performing some really complex calculations and would be able to fathom things that would simply boggle our minds.

Especially that massive colony... ^^

And anyone who believes in the idea that dragons can use magic would therefore have to beileve in them having intellect superior to other beasts, even on par with humans...but, also the fact that dragons would have been a far more ancient race than humanity, allows for more evolution and intellectual advancement. ^^

I also have some beliefs that if I'm not just brushed off as insane may illusidate more...but it's usually pointless for me to even bring them up. ^^;

And even beside that, check out D&D. The games dragons are capable of massive knowledge and intellect as they age, becoming far smarter than humans by a long shot by the time they become whyrms or great whyrms. ^^
